A chairde,

Móra daoibh ar maidin agus tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh go léir ar bhur sáimhín só. Tá trí seachtainí den scaradh sóisialta agus den chianfhoghlaim curtha dínn anois. Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas ó chroí a ghabháil le pobal na scoile trí chéile as na hiarrachtaí ar fad atá á ndéanamh agaibh. Tá na cúinsí reatha an-dian ar chuile dhuine ach le misneach, le nuálaíocht agus ‘ar scáth a chéile’ atáimid ag tabhairt faoi na dúshláin nua seo atá timpeall orainn go léir.

Ón méid a chloisim ó na múinteoirí tá ag éirí thar cionn le formhór na scoláirí agus iad a dul i ngleic leis an gcianfhoghlaim le dúthracht agus le díograis. Tá feabhas ag teacht ar a gcuid scileanna taighde, agus anailíse agus thar aon rud eile ar a gcuid scileanna féin-bhainistiú. Mo cheol iad go léir! Mar aitheantas ar an iarracht agus ar an dul chun cinn thar na bearta atá déanta ag an-chuid dár scoláirí tá teastas speisialta deartha againn. Seolfar ríomhphost mar aon leis an teastas seo chuig tuismitheoirí na scoláirí lena mbaineann an tseachtain seo chugainn.

Tá sé luaite agam cúpla uair ach tá ár gcuid múinteoirí ag obair níos déine ná riamh. Tá dul chun cinn as cuimse déanta acu le linn na tréimhse neamhchoitianta seo agus molaim go hard na spéire iad. Tá siad díograiseach, cruthaitheach, nuálach agus gairmiúil agus is léir go bhfuil a gcuid scoláirí á spreagadh acu. Tá éagsúlacht iontach ann maidir leis na háiseanna, na modhanna agus na hardáin atá in úsáid acu, idir Showbie, Google Classroom, Google Forms, Zoom, Mentimeter, Padlet, Powerpoint, agus fiú an ríomhphost seanfhaiseanta, Ón aischothú atá faighte againn agus ón taighde is déanaí, tá sé den ríthábhacht do na scoláirí agus do na múinteoirí go mbeadh an éagsúlacht seo ann.

Tá moladh tuillte agaibhse chomh maith a thuismitheoirí agus a chaomhnóirí! Tuigim go rí-mhaith go bhfuil na cúinsí reatha an-deacair oraibh go léir ach tá sé rí-shoiléir ón méid atá luaite agam thuas go bhfuil ag éirí go seoigh libhse chomh maith. Táimid go léir ag obair as lámha a chéile a chairde agus is é an rud is tábhachtaí ná go bhfanfamis dearfach. Más gá leanúint ar aghaidh leis an gcianmhúinteoireacht agus leis an gcianfhoghlaim i ndiaidh na Cásca beidh mé i dteagmháil libh in am trátha.

Tá laethanta saoire na Cásca nach mór buailte linn agus gan aon agó, tá scíth tuillte go maith againn go léir. Ba mhór an cúnamh é do scoláirí scrúduithe, ráiteas an Taoisigh aréir go rachaidh na scrúduithe stáit ar aghaidh ‘ar ais nó ar éigean’. Mar is iondúil ag an am seo den bhliain, beidh ar scoláirí i mblianta 3, 5 agus 6 roinnt dul siar a dhéanamh thar laethanta saoire na Cásca, ach le cúnamh Dé, ní bheidh siad chomh crúógach is a bhí siad le tamall anuas. Tá comhairle i dtaca le dul siar á roinnt ag na múinteoirí leis na scoláirí faoi láthair, trí cháipéisí roinnte.

ÁISEANNA

Is iontach an scéal é go bhfuil RTÉ 2 chun roinnt drámaí Shakespeare a chur ar siúl do scoláirí sna laethanta amach romhainn. Tá an t-eolas ar fad ar fáil ón nasc seo: https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.rte.ie/amp/1127835/

Molaim ní amháin do na scoláirí scrúduithe ach do chuile dhuine breathnú ar chuid de na drámaí seo. Táim cinnte go mbainfimid idir thaitmeamh agus tairbhe astu. Mar a scríobh Shakespeare é féin:

“Is not birth, beauty, good shape, discourse, manhood, learning, gentleness, virtue, youth, liberality, and such like, the spice and salt that season a man?”

A chairde,

Good morning and I hope that you are all relaxed and untroubled this morning. We managed our way through through three weeks of social distancing and distance learning. I wish to thank express my heartfelt thanks to the entire school community for all the efforts that everyone is making. Current circumstances are very difficult for us all but we are facing the new challenges that are all around us with courage, innovation and togetherness.

From what I hear from the teachers, the majority of our students are making great progress taking on distance learning with enthusiasm and diligence Their research and analysis skills are improving and above all else they are enhancing their self-management skills. Very well done to them all! In recognition of the extraordinary effort and progress many students have made, we have designed a special certificate. An email along with this certificate, will be sent to the parents of the relevant students next week.

I mentioned a number of times that our teachers are working harder than ever. They have made incredible progress in the last three weeks and I cannot praise them highly enough for it. They are industrious, creative, innovative and professional and they are clearly inspiring their students. There is wonderful variety in relation to the resources, methods and platforms that our teachers are using, whether it is Showbie, Google Classroom, Google Forms, Zoom, Mentimeter, Pdalet, Powerpoint, or even good old fashioned email. From the feedback we have received and from the latest research it is vital that this variety is on offer to both students and teachers.

You the parents and guardians deserve some praise too! I fully understand that the current circumstances are very difficult for you all, but it is abundantly clear from what I have said above that you too are succeeding. We ae in this together a chairde and the most important thing is that we remain positive. I will be in contact with you I due course if we have to continue with the distance teaching and learning after Easter

Our Easter holidays are almost upon us and without any doubt we all deserve a break. The Taoiseach’s statement last night that the state exams will go ahead ‘by hook or by crook’ was for exam students, a welcome one. As is normal at this time of year however, students in years 3, 5 and 6 will need to do a certain amount of revision during the Easter holidays, but hopefully, they will not be as busy as they have been recently. The teachers are currently advising the students via shared documents, in relation to revision.

RESOURCES

It is great news that RTÉ 2 will show a number Shakespeare’s plays for students in the coming days. All the information is available via this link: https://www.google.ie/amp/s/www.rte.ie/amp/1127835/

I recommend that all of us, not just the exam students watch some of these dramas. I am sure that we will get both enjoyment and benefit from them. As Shakespeare himself wrote:

“Is not birth, beauty, good shape, discourse, manhood, learning, gentleness, virtue, youth, liberality, and such like, the spice and salt that season a man?”

There is an interesting article from the Irish Times about Irish terminology available via this link https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/heritage/collops-and-f%C3%ADb%C3%ADns-the-lost-language-of-ireland-s-landscape-1.3160254
